Photo of the Week (20 June 2016)
Calm, peaceful, and serene; those are the words I would use to describe this week’s Photo of the Week. Some have said that this looks like the shot was taken for a magazine. It wasn’t, but it is definiteely a pleasant sight in my travel photography images.
Some of you who are reading this and have been since the first week might find that this image is similar in location and composition to an earlier photograph. If you found yourself wondering the same; you were correct. The other photo was taken towards the end of the sun setting while it was just barely over the horizon.
I had taken today’s photo at the same place and virtually in the same spot was taken at mid-day. In this instance, I was able to capture a beautiful blue sky that transitioned into the equally attractive tropical waters of the Andaman Sea.
The landscaping at the Coconut Island Resort offered an excellent frame. I was able to use the tall palm trees to the sides and leave open the center for the blue expanse.
Before taking this photo, I had been preparing to take a quick dip in the pool to relax. It was a day with just oppressive heat. I stepped out of the villa, looked out, thought I had to get a picture. I quick hurried back in to quickly grab the camera. Snapped the picture and then it was into the pool (without the camera).
Coconut Island is a resort that I will definitely visit again, but instead for a full period of relaxation. The little island is great, the villas are comfortable, and the staff is friendly.
However, I’m thinking that if I’d like to add some more variety to my travel photography, It might be best to get some serious shooting done outside of Thailand. Perhaps a return to Japan for a photographic holiday would be ideal. A chance to reconnect with old friends and enjoy a change of seasons.
