Photo of the Week (22 August 2016)
I admit, I chose one of my few food photography images because I’m a bit hungry at the moment. The delicious image for this week is from the X2 Staff Party that was held on Coconut Island. After the annual conference ended, it was the staff’s turn to have fun.
It’s a colorful food photography shot and I think that’s why I like it so much. You have the yellows and greens of the skewered vegetables and fruits. The evolution to pink for the prawns. Tying it all together is the beautifully blue pool in the background.
I find the bokeh in the image particularly pleasing. The cloudy foreground skewers and the blurred pool in the background sandwich the grilling food at the center. My favorite is the creamy pool in the background because it just seems to add something to the image.
The camera used to shoot this photo was a Nikon D5300 and perhaps surprisingly, the 18-55mm kit lens was used. Nothing really fancy or unique there. In fact, this is one of the first photos that I had taken with the camera. The Nikon D5300 is still in my bag and is my first DSLR camera.
Since this photo, my lens collection has grown as has my selection of cameras to take on a variety of jobs.
Taking pictures of food is something that I’d like to get into more, but not the Instagram look at my lunch type images. When I talk about food photography, it’s the type of images you’d see on television, in a menu, or in a magazine.
However, before I start looking to be published in Food & Wine, I admit that I do require some additional practice. So, I guess that means I need to do some more cooking at home or find someone willing to take a chance on me.
Well, that’s all for this week!
